MyTakeHomeCalc ("we," "us," or "our") operates mytakehomecalc.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using MyTakeHomeCalc you agree to this policy.
Information we collect
Calculator inputs. Numbers you enter into our calculators (salary, deductions, state, etc.) are calculated in your browser. We do not send them to our servers or store them in a database. The analytics tools described below do collect page interaction data, which is covered in the next two items.
Usage data (Google Analytics). We use Google Analytics (GA4) to collect data about page views, session duration, and general geographic region. We do not attach your name or email address to this data.
Usage data (Microsoft Clarity). We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use pages, for example where people click and scroll. Clarity can create session replays and heatmaps of page activity. Clarity applies its own masking to sensitive fields.
Email list.If you subscribe, we collect your email address. See "Email list" below.
Contact form. If you write to us through the contact page, we receive the name, email address, subject and message you enter, so we can reply.
IP-based state detection.On page load we make an optional request to ipapi.co to detect your state for the state selector. We do not store the result. See ipapi.co's privacy policy for their practices.
Cookies.Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity use cookies or similar identifiers. If your browser appears to be in Europe, including the EU, EEA and UK, we ask for your permission before loading them and do not run them until you accept. Elsewhere they run by default. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link in the footer, and you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Email list
Signing up is optional. We use a double opt-in: you enter your email address, we send you a confirmation link, and you are added to the list only after you click it.
What we collect: your email address and whether you have confirmed or unsubscribed. We do not ask for your name.
What we send: a confirmation email, a welcome email, one email each January about tax changes and what they mean for your paycheck, and the occasional new guide.
Where it is stored: Resend (email delivery and the subscriber list) and Upstash (a database that holds confirmation and unsubscribe status). To limit abuse of the sign-up form, we also keep a counter tied to your IP address for up to one hour.
Unsubscribing: every email contains an unsubscribe link. Using it removes your address from the list. We keep a record that the address unsubscribed so that your choice is honored; contact us if you want that record erased.
Sharing: we do not sell or rent your email address.

MyTakeHomeCalc uses the following third-party services that may process data on our behalf:

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Affiliate disclosure
MyTakeHomeCalc participates in affiliate programs. When you click through to partner sites (job boards, tax software, budgeting tools), we may receive a commission at no cost to you. This does not influence our calculator results or editorial content.
Data retention
We do not retain calculator input data. Analytics data is kept according to each provider's settings (Google Analytics: 14 months). We keep your email address for as long as you are subscribed, and a record of the unsubscribe afterward as described above. Contact form messages are kept as long as needed to respond and for our records.
Your rights
You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time with the link in every message. For California residents, CCPA rights apply including the right to know, delete, and opt-out of sale (we do not sell data). For EEA/UK residents, GDPR rights apply, including access, correction and deletion. Contact us to exercise any rights.
Children's privacy
MyTakeHomeCalc is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of MyTakeHomeCalc after changes constitutes acceptance.
